GEOFF VIDAL- SAXOPHONE
Winner of the 2012 Detroit Jazz Festival Saxophone Competition and who the New York Times heralds as "a harmonically astute tenor saxophonist", Geoff Vidal is a native of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and studied at UMASS Amherst under Jeff Holmes, Lynn Klock and Adam Kolker from 1998-2003 where he won several Downbeat Student Music Awards as an outstanding collegiate soloist. In 2003, Vidal attended Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead program before moving to New Orleans, LA. In 2006 in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Vidal moved to New York and quickly entrenched himself around some of the most talented and forward-thinking musicians in the city. A highly in-demand saxophonist & woodwind player, Vidal has made a name for himself thanks to his easy-going demeanor and extraordinary musical talents, which belie his years. Vidal currently freelances with such artists as Arturo O'Farrill & the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, the Artie Shaw Orchestra and a slew of other prominent NYC big bands among the likes of Jason Marshall, Cecilia Coleman, Valery Ponomarev and Gregorio Uribe. In 2010, he released his debut album She Likes That (Arts & Music Factory) to critical acclaim. Currently residing in Brooklyn, Vidal performs and teaches all over the New York metro area and the northeast with the Geoff Vidal group (GV3 and GV5) in addition to being an integral member of several steady working bands.
